Our Specialties

 Boaz Brizman Specialties

Boaz Brizman has been treating adults and children suffering from chronic asthma, bronchitis, allergies, and other lung disorders with Chinese medicine since the early 1990's. His specialty is working with patients suffering from these kinds of disorders who are dependent upon inhalers, chronic antibiotics, immune suppressors, steroids, etc. With the use of Chinese medicine (both acupuncture and herbal medicine), he has been successful in enabling his patients to free themselves from dependency upon these drugs.

Matia Brizman Specialties

Matia Brizman's work is an original system composed of her own integrative approach between eastern and western medicine. This body of work will be published in her Ph.D. dissertation in Classical Chinese Medicine, effectively documenting the current state of her primary clinical focus, Interstitial Cystitis. She is endeavoring to form a bridge of understanding between Western and Eastern medicine disciplines of the disease and to incorporate her ideas into a format which will help others treat the disease. She intends to continue her private practice, but hopes to expand her work by teaching her philosophy for the treatment of this disease.

Treatment For Sports Injuries

Sports Injuries are usually musculo-skeletal conditions caused by physical training, martial arts and competitive sports as well as outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, running, etc. Activities such as these commonly stress or damage muscles, ligaments, tendons bones and joints.

The use of acupuncture to treat injuries began centuries ago and specific acupuncture techniques were developed to stop pain and dramatically increase recovery time

Today, its use has expanded into many areas of competitive sports. It was, and still is, one of the best means of healing in the martial arts.

Common sports injuries include:

  • Frozen shoulder
  • Acromioclavicular separation
  • Rotator cuff issues
  • Tendonitis
  • Arthritic conditions
  • Meniscal tears
  • Various disc herniations
  • Ligament tears
  • Sprains

Acupuncture can be very successful with the treatment of sports injuries. Many professional athletes use acupuncture to decrease healing times and resolve acute and chronic conditions.

Its uses include:

  • Reducing pain
  • Increasing range of motion
  • Reducing recovery and healing time
  • Decreasing inflammation
  • Reducing swelling
  • Relaxing muscles and relieving spasms
  • Decreasing bruising
  • Improving local blood circulation to increase delivery of nutrients and removal of toxic elements

Here at BOMAMED we have developed a comprehensive program for treating sports injuries for professional and amateur athletes and exercise enthusiasts. PUr patients include martial artists, fighters, body-builders, golfers, cyclists, skaters, runners as well among others. The treatment program is a balance between promoting high level performance with the enhancement of complete health and wellness.

Treatment For Trauma

All sorts of trauma, from bruises to sprains to strains to concussions and fractures can be partially or completely treated with acupuncture and herbs. There are significant advantages to quickly addressing pain and swelling without the possible side effects of drugs. Even if surgery is ultimately necessary, adept application of acupuncture will assist in the healing and rehabilitative process. Elective or emergency surgery is also a situation where acupuncture can be very helpful as surgery is itself a type of trauma that can cause swelling, bruising, pain and loss of function.

Pain Relieving Treatments

Sometimes there is post operative pain which does not improve as expected and acupuncture can be effectively used to reduce that pain. Post surgical pain is often frustrating for both surgeons and patients and is generally poorly addressed by modern Western physicians. Before you start on pharmaceutical drugs or have nerve blocks or more surgery, it is often beneficial to first consider Chinese medicine as an alternative.

Treatment for Chronic Diseases

The pain of chronic diseases such as arthritis, tendonitis, and others can often be reduced with Chinese medicine and acupuncture.

Additionally, many western medications can cause side effects that can be avoided with acupuncture or herbal treatment.

Exercise is also important for rehabilitation, but it is necessary to relieve the pain to a degree where a patient can begin an effective strengthening program.

Treatment for Asthma

What Is Asthma ?

Asthma is a chronic lung disease where the lining of the main air passages of the lungs, the bronchial tubes become inflamed. The muscles of the bronchial walls tighten and extra mucus is produced, causing the airways to narrow. The result could range from frequent wheezing with a cough to severe difficulty in breathing. In extreme cases, an asthma attack can become life-threatening event.

Asthma is one of the most chronic serious diseases in children and adolescents, affecting nearly nine million children under 18. The most common asthma among children is allergic asthma. In this form, otherwise harmless allergens, such as dust mites, cat and dog dander and other environmental allergens trigger an asthma attack.

Asthma symptoms are often worse in the morning and late at night.

What Causes Asthma Symptoms to Appear?

Dust mites, pollens, molds, pet dander, smoke from cigarettes, household sprays, cleaning materials, paints, gasoline, perfumes, respiratory infections, sinus infections, exercise and hyperventilating (rapid, shallow breathing) can all trigger symptoms. Intense emotional experiences and sudden changes in weather have also been known to be triggers.

Some of the key symptoms of asthma can be:

Coughing

Wheezing - constant or intermittent

Wheezing or a whistling sounds on exhalation

Shortness of breath or rapid breathing

Chest tightness

(Not all children exhibit symptoms each and every day.)

Asthma Statistics (California)

Recent data collected by the California Department of Health Services in 2003, shows that 14.8 percent of children and 12.3 percent of adults in Californian, an estimated 4.5 million individuals, have been diagnosed with asthma. About 40,000 Californians are hospitalized every year because of asthma. In California, asthma disproportionately affects children and young adults with prevalence being the highest among children 12-17. Today, over 600 people die from asthma each year in California alone.
