One hears the word detox amongst friends perhaps not often, but often enough. I hear that word constructed in a question form at the clinic all the time. People have been increasingly interested in the idea of doing a "detox" to get healthy these days.

It seems we are a nation of many diseases that have inflammation at its root. Why is this? In our
opinion it is because we have poor diets and take medications unnecessarily and incorrectly.
The sugar and alcohol and over consumption of starch in our diets all lead to inflammation and imbalances in our intestines. The chemicals we consume within our processed foods not to mention the hormones and antibiotics--all lead to more imbalance and later inflammation as well.

For those of you who dont know, your skin is your largest organ. Your skin is like a sponge, soaking up all that you put on it. In the early stages of my practice, I did not realize how much people wee being affected by their skin care products. As time passes, I began to connect the dots. Pain levels could be as different as night and day depending on product use.
In other words, a person could be doing everything correctly, but, using products that are upsetting their system. This in turn could be making pain levels rise.

Often we go to the dermatologist because of a dark mark or small growth or rash somewhere on our body. Or, we may go to our internist because our hair is shedding too much or because we have toenail fungus or we may even have have more serious problems with such things as edema or hives. I give these examples because these are often things that come without a diagnosis. These are things that often your Western medical doctor will treat and take care of, but the origin may not be fully understood.

Imbalances often have to do with the state of our emotions. There is a two way street between how our minds effect our body and how our body effects our mind. T o live and breath and take a moment to smell the flowers so to speak. Take one moment for this! Pay close attention when you are watching this and see how it makes you feel in both your mind as well as your body.

People do many things with good intentions. Sometimes thought they dont realize that they are not built on good information. This is one example of the potential for a good thing turning into something that is not good for us as a society. Antibiotics are life savers, but not when their overuse is leading to highly resistant bacteria like MRSA and the lot!

Watch this compelling movie trailer. It is outstanding! My father was one of the people that they were referring to that does ultimately due to pharmaceuticals. Not that they are not necessary sometimes-but not necessary to the degree they are prescribed. What can we do to prevent the need for them in our own body? See this!

How much does our diet affect our health? Tremendously! And, personally I believe in eating moderately. Too much of anything is not good. But, sometimes there are certain things that we should not be eating. And, those are things that we should be made aware of. This is a great article by an author on one of these subjects you mind interesting! http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20026766.000

Integrative medicine is medicine at its best. There is so much important information at our finger tips these days. Knowing when to use Western medicine, when to use alternative medicine, and when to use both is difficult, but important. Cancer may be one of those example. When chemotherapy is used, often it can start to to "kill" you too! Blood cells are lowered making the therapy difficult for the body to handle. This does not even reference the countless side effects like severe nausea, fatigue, hair loss, etc...
